Dennis Munoz, Democratic
Candidate for Atlantic County Sheriff, once
again, issued the following challenge to the
current Sheriff to debate anytime or
anyplace in Atlantic County allowing the
voters to hear both candidates and discuss
the campaign issues.
“Currently, a well-known,
morning television news show has one of
their anchors traveling through out the
world to unknown places and you have to
guess where he is. That’s just the way I
feel about my opponent,” said Dennis Munoz,
an officer on the Atlantic City Police
Department for 28 years. “It has been over a
week since I sent the Sheriff a letter, by
registered mail and by regular mail,
requesting a series of debates and I have
not heard back from him.”
“I can’t emphasize enough
the importance to offer the voters every
opportunity to hear both of us openly
discuss the issues that are so vital to all
residents and taxpayers of Atlantic County,”
said Munoz. There are various concerns that
effect each and every resident of our
county. There are issues in the western part
of the county which are different from the
mainland communities and urban areas. It is
crucial that McGettigan and I select times
and places as soon as possible.
“Earlier this week,
addressing the issue of debates between
Democratic rivals Frank Lautenberg and Rob
Andrews, State Senator Jim Whelan stated,
“Quite simply, I believe not debating is a
disservice to voters. If you’re going to be
a candidate for any office, there is a
responsibility and an expectation that there
will be debates.” (PolitickerNJ.Com,
5/1/08). If Senator Whelan feels that way
about the Democratic Primary between
Lautenberg and Andrews, I would hope he
feels the same way about the Sheriff’s
Primary,“ said Munoz. He (Whelan) is
supporting Andrews, who is requesting a
series of debates. There is no difference in
my calling for a series of debates for the
Sheriff’s Race. It’s as easy as that,” said
Munoz.
“As I stated before, I
strongly welcome any media outlet, radio
personality, civic group or municipal
organization to contact me and my opponent,
so we can set-up the debates,” said Munoz.
“I look forward to a series of debates which
will allow the voters the opportunity to
make an educated choice in the June 3, 2008
Primary Election after hearing both of us
discuss the issues and concerns of this
Sheriff’s race.”
