PARSIPPANY, NJ -
Following a
request by
Gannett New
Jersey asking
the candidates
to respond to
their series on
property taxes,
Jon Corzine
decided to duck
the joint
editorial board
this morning
with Chris
Christie and
Chris Daggett to
avoid talking
about his broken
promise to lower
New Jerseyans'
property taxes.
In 2005, Jon
Corzine promised
40% property tax
relief in 4
years and
despite his bold
campaign
pledge, New
Jersey continues
to have the
highest property
taxes in the
nation, with the
average property
tax bill going
up by $1,000
over the past
four years.
Given his clear
failure to
deliver property
tax relief, it's
not surprising
that Jon Corzine
does not want to
talk about his
plan to raise
taxes. Just
last week,
Governor Corzine
told the Star
Ledger he will
raise taxes by
over $1 billion
to cover his own
budget deficit.
New Jerseyans
deserve more
from their
Governor than
empty promises
and shirked
responsibility.
Governor Corzine
should have
joined this
morning's
editorial board
and explained
his failure to
lower New
Jersey's
property taxes.
Christie-Guadagno
Campaign Manager
Bill Stepien
stated: "Once
again, Jon
Corzine is
ducking out of
his
responsibility
to the voters of
New Jersey. We
have the highest
property taxes
in the country,
the highest tax
burden in the
nation and
nearly 10
percent
unemployment.
Voters deserve
to know why Jon
Corzine is
promising to
raise taxes when
he has failed to
cut spending or
rein in special
interests. As
usual, Jon
Corzine would
rather hide
behind his Wall
Street millions
and let
slanderous
attack ads be
his message,
rather than face
New Jerseyans
and his failed
record."
