The Good Old Days Festival
Committee hosted a luncheon for the 2008 receipts of the
Lawrence “Bud” Kern
Scholarships. The luncheon was held at Mac’s Restaurant in
Somers Point and was attended by scholarship winners Vincent
Nistico, Kristen Park, Maxwell Gregory Trotman, and Carlye
Waniak as well as members of their families. Mayor Jack
Glasser and the 2008 Good Old Days “Buddy of The Year” Nick
Regine were also in attendance. Scholarship winner Kriste
Weiss was out of town and unable to attend.
This year’s festival will be held in
Kennedy Park in Somers Point on September 6th
from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM and will feature live music, fun
and games for the kids, all types of food and beverages as
well as 50 cent hamburgers and hot dogs. The annual “Run
for Bud” 5k run will be held at 9:00 AM the morning of the
festival. The proceeds from the annual celebration and run
are use to help fund the annual scholarships.
The scholarship fund was established
in 1979 to recognize graduating high school students from
Somers Point who have demonstrated community spirit and
pride and through their involvement in civic and scholastic
activities have displayed a singular dedication to purpose.
Recipients are chosen annually and
receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000. The
memorial fund honors Lawrence “Bud” Kern, former Recreation
Commission Chairperson and Little League President. Bud was
instrumental in the development of recreation facilities and
programs within Somers Point. He expanded countless
volunteer hours in service to his community. It was his
idea to have an end-of-summer community picnic, which gave
rise to this event.
Through supporting and recognizing
high school students who reflect the qualities that made Bud
Kern such a special individual, we hope in some small way to
perpetuate his spirit.

scholarship fund and the festival is available at the
