HarryHurley.com SCOTT EVANS JUST COULDN'T BRING HIMSELF TO DO IT ... HE TOOK THE LOW ROAD ... WHEN THE HIGH ROAD WAS HIS FOR THE TAKING! By HARRY HURLEY Editor & Publisher HarryHurley.com Thursday, June 5, 2008 6:50 a.m. The Associated Press and The Atlantic City Press got it wrong all day yesterday. I broke hew news first in the market yesterday that Scott Evans had conceded and finally accepted his defeat at the hands of Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford. the regrettable point is that Evans had two choices: Take the high road, accept defeat and handle it with class and dignity. Or, acknowledge defeat and take the low road and trash talk the voters decision and Mayor Langford. Sadly, Evans decided to take the low road. But, don't hold to hard against Evans ... he can't help it ... It's his very nature. It's like the old story about the Scorpian and the Frog. Evans can't help it ... It's his nature. Also, it didn't even take 24 hours for another "Hurley in the Morning" election prediction to come true. Evans will not be leaving office. He intends to serve through the certification of the November General Election, when he will have to leave by law at that point. Evans had no legitimacy from the start ... and, he has even less now (if that's even possible), after suffering a resounding thrashing this past Tuesday. I wish Evans had risen above his core level and taken the high road and congratulated Mayor Langford, promised a smooth transition and simply moved on ... back to his career in the Atlantic City Fire Department. He just couldn't bring himself to do it. I'm not surprised, I expected it ... But, hoped he could have risen higher and placed the City of Atlantic City and her taxpayers first. But, they were never first, it was always about what's in it for Scot Evans. Well, he found out this past Tuesday, when the voters gave him his political walking papers. Evans bears serious watching over the next several months ahead. We will be here to provide the public with a daily accounting of what's going on in this rogue, un-elected, Executive Branch government in Atlantic City. Finally, City Council must step up, and take control of Atlantic City government until Mayor Langford is sworn back into office. There role is more vital then ever before.

The ambulance and police officers called to outgoing appointed Atlantic City Mayor Scott Evans ... have been the topic of much convsersation since I broke the news yesterday (6/5/08). Well, more details are being shared with me by reliable sources. It appears as though Evans Rotweiler bit someone. There is no public report,. Anytime there is a bite, there must be a report made, particularly if there are not required papers demonstrating that required shots, etc. are in order. There is a very sensational allegation about Evans that has been shared with me. Before revealing it, I must do more homework. For now, I will say that the allegation is highly explosive in nature. Updates as warranted. Stay close.

Harry Hurley on the coming heat wave. Please syat hydrated. Check on neighbotrs, particularly elderly. Avoid direct sunlight exposure as much as possible. Try to find shade and airconditioning. We will be experiencing 4 straight days of 90-plus degrees. Also, the UV index will be astronomical, with only 15 minutes exposure time at any one time healthy. Take this heat wave very seriously. Do not exert yourself and pick projects that can wait until things cool down. Saturday through Tuesday will be 90 to 95 degrees. Be safe. Best Regards, Harry

HarryHurley.com WELL PLACED "DEVINS LANE" SOURCE CONFIRMS TO HarryHurley.com THAT THE ATLANTIC CITY PRESS WILL PUBLISH A "WHAT'S NEXT" PIECE IN ATLANTIC CITY IN TOMORROW'S EDITIONS One of the absolute funniest things about this is that they don't know what's next in Atlantic City ... But I do ... and, I'll be revealing it later today here! By HARRY HURLEY Editor & Publisher HarryHurley.com SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 2008 11:38 a.m Major breaking news story coming today, here at HarryHurley.com Regarding tomorrow's The Press piece: The Press is already working overtime ... planning to undermine Mayor Lorenzo Langford before he is even sworn back into office. A part of their twisted agenda will be to declare ... through a quote obtained from Damon Tyner that Council President William "Speedy" Marsh will be holding a fundraiser for his run next year for Mayor. This The Press quote from a credible person like Tyner is purely meant to undermine Langford, before he can even get started. I have very good information that Marsh will not challenge Langford in a race that would potentially feature multiple African-American candidates ... which might allow for them to split the vote and Dennis Mason to consolidate the "white" vote and potentially win against 3-4 African American candidates. However, the June, 2009 Democratic Primary should shake most of this out, making it a moot point. The key here is that The Atlantic City Press has wasted no time in its continuing efforts to undermine Langford at every turn. Langford has been quite successful, despite their mighty efforts to work against him. Remember, come back later today/tonight ... Because while The Atlantic City Press pretends to know what's next in Atlantic City ... I have breaking news, which I'm calling the political Mother's of all Blockbusters coming today or tonight. Remember, The Press has been consistently wrong about almost everything in Atlantic City. They enthusiastically endorsed and supported every thing That is: Craig Callaway and Bob Levy. Developing.

HarryHurley.com UPDATE ON TOMORROW'S ATLANTIC CITY PRESS ARTICLE ABOUT ATLANTIC CITY The Press story about "What's Next in Atlantic City" set for Tomorrow's editions will also include quotes from Councilman Marty Small. SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 2008 3:01 p.m. My Devins Lane insider reveals that the angle will be to hit Langford on multiple fronts about how much competition he will face in 2009. Funny, as Langford has steadfastly refused to even comment beyond the upcoming term When have you ever seen 19-month advanced speculation like this? Small has consistently publicly stated that he would be supporting Mayor Langford in 2008 and that he has direct interest to run for Mayor in 2009. The Press angle is to pretend that the Mayor for the next 19 months doesn't count, and, all should ignore it and simply wish it away and plan for 2009, when they feel they can get a Mayor of their choosing in office. Several others strategically stayed out of this most recent election for their own selfish reasons. We will continue to be the source where you can turn to get the truth and first breaking news report on all important developments. Finally, how come when two convicted felons were running Atlantic City we didn't read any "What's Next" stories for Atlantic City?

HarryHurley.com BOB McDEVITT-BACKED CANDIDATES HAD GREAT SUCCESS THIS PAST JUNE 3RD ... DOES McDEVITT WANT TO BE THE NEXT ATLANTIC CITY DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN? So many have ignored the importance of these seats ... not us! By HARRY HURLEY Editor & Publisher HarryHurley.com SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 2008 3:29 p.m. Local 54 President Bob McDevitt may have publicly stayed out of Decision 2008 for Mayor of Atlantic City, but, McDevitt was very involved in helping to deliver a substantial number of successful Committee seats for candidates he ran and supported. McDevitt clearly understands the importance of these two-year term seats. McDevitt backed candidates won the most seats this past June 3rd, but not a majority. Langford backed candidates won the second most seats. Callaway candidates, powered by absentee ballots won several seats. This all matters a lot. Because within the next several days, a new Atlantic City Democratic Chairman will be selected. We've all directly witnessed over the past two years how important this position and these seats can be. Multiple reliable sources have told me that Bob McDevitt himself may very want to be the next Democratic Chairman in Atlantic City. He's bright, hard-working and viable. His disadvantages coming in would be the fact that he's a life-long Republican, and, that he stayed on the sidelines by design, while so many worked so hard for Langford to be the next Mayor. McDevitt has not expressed interest in this position to me. The names George Tibbitt and Marty Small have also been mentioned. The vote for a new Chairman should be very interesting, because it will require compromise. Ironically, The Callaways could wield tremendous power in deciding who the next Chairman will be. But, if history is any gauge of the present and future, The Callaways always want something for their political support. In gthis life, I cannot imagine Bob McDevitt strking a political deal with The Callaways. So, it is my hope that the next Atlantic City Democratic Chairman comes from a thoughtful process that includes compromise from Langford and McDevitt winners. Hey, McDevitt was an Atlantic City Press officially designated "LOSER" just like me back in 2005, when Callaway and Levy snuckered so many, but not us. I guess McDevitt figures to be a "WINNER" this time around. But, I think it would be a mistake for him to seek the Chairman's position, because there is no natural progression here. If it were to occur, it looks opportunistic and, a grab for power. Bob's too pure and decent in my book for some kind of power grab.

HarryHurley.com HARRY CALLS "BIG BROWN" IN TONIGHT'S BELMONT STAKES Saturday, June 7, 2008 update 5:28 p.m. update Big Brown will win tonight by a Secretariat-like margin, even in 90-plus degree heat. I'm calling for 30 length win .. unless the great Jockey Kent Desormeux holds Big Brown because of the extreme heat. Big Brown will be the first since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown. Big Brown will also have beaten 38 horses along the way ... something no horse has ever done during the 3 races. Big Brown will get to retire undefeated.

HarryHurley.com BOB McDEVITT, JIM WHELAN & RON RUFF ... and, a "pinch" of Damon Tyner, too. What an odd political alliance A very significant, but almost stealth campaign is being waged by Bob McDevitt for Atlantic City Democratic Party Chairman. It has more than a few people - myself included - scratching our heads. As you know, I have always been and remain a BIG Bob McDevitt fan. But, something about this all seems very unnatural and even forced to me. It almost has the appearance that someone else is behind it all. However, since Bob is always his own man ... I'll dismiss this thought. Jim Whelan and Damon Tyner are BIG TIME behind the push for McDevitt. Not so much with Tyner, who is a great guy ... but, what an odd alliance with Jim Whelan. Beyond strange. We'll leave this point at that. Outgoing Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Ron Ruff also is working overtime on his lats days to make himself a player in the Atlantic City Chairman's race. Ruff even took the preposterous stand, to call for a meeting for tonight ... to be held at all places, Local 54 Headquarters. So, you can see that Ruff is also in the blend that is the Whelan, Tyner, McDevitt political tea. Ruff cited the fact that he can't reach Scott Evans ... so he needs to call a meeting. Nice try Ron. No one's buying this bunk. McDevitt did an excellent job placing a significant number of candidates and helping to lead them to victory in last Tuesday's Democratic Primary in Atlantic City. I just never thought McDevitt did this because he was seeking to takeover the Atlantic City Democratic Committee himself. It just doesn't make sense to me at any level that I can figure out. And, since McDevitt has kept his political cards very quiet on this one ... I have no additional insight available as to why/what possessed him to make this stealth run. As it looks now ... McDevitt has as many as 18 Democratic Committee Members lining up behind him. Some I have interviewed over the past 48 hours dispute this number, and think it's too high. Steven Young and Marty Small have a combined total of at least 17 votes. These votes are confirmed. But, can these two get together and can the supporters of both, settle on one? This leaves 18 voting members left. If all vote tonight (52 Committee Members in all), The Young/Small alliance would need 10. McDevitt would need 9 out of 18. Get ready for the WILD CARD of all WILD CARDS! The Callaways! They won several Committee seats, powered by absentee ballots. Who do they dislike less? Can you believe it ... They actually can decide who is the next Atlantic City Democratic Chairman, again! The more things change ... the more they stay the same! It may all come down to Jim Whelan and Ron Ruff, two people not very popular (at all) in Atlantic City. Afterall, they gave no one in Atlantic City the Regular Democrat party line this past June 3rd. Also, Whelan enthusiastically endorsed 3 Republicans in Ventnor just less month. Not to mention ... alright, we'll mention it ... The outrageous Whelan state legislation to try and take financial control of Atlantic City. You would think on its face that anyone caught being aligned with Whelan, would be political road kill in any local, Atlantic City election. However, our history is filled with occasions, whereby people vote against their own best interests. Whelan and Ruff are pushing Pat Darcy hard for Atlantic County Chairman. This will also be decided tonight. Darcy is facing a serious challenge from Marc Ginsburg ... who is the Chairman of the Egg Harbor Township Democrat Party. Ginsburg has EHT and Pleasantville locked up. Ginsburg also looks very solid in Atlantic City, except, expect McDevitt-aligned candidates to fully support Darcy. This lends even more political fuel to the concept that McDevitt is the Whelan/Ruff candidate. This may help Darcy ... but, hurt McDevitt himself. They are pushing with all of their might for Bob McDevitt in Atlantic City. Damon Tyner is making phone calls, asking people why are they challenging McDevitt ... declaring that McDevitt will be a great Chairman and to let him have it. I have no doubt whatsoever in Bob's talents. He is a great organizer and leader. He possesses all of the skills sets to be a great Chairman. Without question! The only problems: His alliance with Whelan and Ruff is troubling for too many reasons to detail here and now. Also, McDevitt never even joined the Atlantic City Democratic Club. Finally, he's a life-long Republican. The Atlantic City Democrats may decide that they want a real Democrat to lead them, and, not a Democrat of convenience. All of this political maneuvering tells you all that you need to know about how important these Committee seats are. And, how hard people will push for the Party Chairmen positions. One final disadvantage that McDevitt faces going into tonight. He sat on the sidelines in the race for Mayor of Atlantic City. It rubbed a lot of people, including me, the wrong way. Because Bob is the type of guy that you expect more from. I've never seen him take a powder like this. We're not talking about 5 minutes that doesn't count here. We're talking about the leader of Atlantic City for the next 14-19 months. That matters. Having said all of this ... I give McDevitt an edge going into tonight's vote. He has a lot of political muscle behind him. But, it's still far from over. The phone lines will be burning today in Atlantic City and Atlantic County. If you are a Committee Member, you a strong commodity, today! For one day only, people are going to make you feel like you're a King or Queen. As always, look for results tonight first at www.HarryHurley.com

7:01 p.m. update Scott Evans Chaired a very fair Atlantic City Democratic Committee meeting tonight. In fairness, it must be noted that he did not participate in anything that would open him to criticism of any kind. Evans did his last duty as Democratic Chairman and did it well. The voting process has now begun for the selection of a new Atlantic County Democratic Chairman to replace Ron Ruff. Pat D'arcy is the favorite. He is facing a significant challenge from Marc Ginsburg. The Atlantic City 20-17 vote, means that Ginsburg will not pile up any advantage coming out of Atlantic City
