For Immediate Release
Sergeant Monica
McMenamin
Atlantic City Police
Department
May 7, 2008
On May 6, 2008 at
approximately 6:00 am uniform patrol Officer
Bounthamal Thavisack was flagged down by a local
resident on the 2400 block of Fairmount Avenue
in reference to an assault. Officer Thavisack
located a male victim bleeding on the ground.
The victim was identified as off duty Atlantic
City Police Officer Anthony Grajales. A
witness provided a description of two suspects
who had assaulted the officer. The males were
running from the area on foot. A family member
of the officer kept one suspect in view as they
fled and was able to relay that information to
the responding officers. One of the
suspects, identified as Jose Carmona, was
located at Texas Avenue and Arctic Avenues (one
block from the victim.) Carmona fought with the
arresting officers as he was being taken into
custody.
It is notable that the
area residents helped the Police in locating
this suspect by pointing out where the suspect
was running as the back up officers
arrived. Cooperation such as this by the area
residents is always greatly appreciated by the
Police.
Chief John J. Mooney
expressed gratitude for the assistance provided
by the public.
Officer Grajales was
treated for his injuries and released from
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic
City.
Approximately twelve
hours after the assault at 6:30 pm the second
suspect turned himself in at the Public Safety
Building.
Detective Kevin Burrows is
the lead Detective for this case. This is an
ongoing investigation and the Police are asking
anybody who may have witnessed the assault to
call the Atlantic City Police Department
Detective Bureau at 609-347-5766.
