Dennis Munoz, Democratic Candidate
for Atlantic County Sheriff, today issued the following
challenge to the current Sheriff to debate at anytime or
anyplace in Atlantic County allowing the voters to hear
the platforms of both candidates and discuss the
campaign issues.
Munoz, an officer on the Atlantic
City Police Department for 28 years and the recipient of
numerous awards and citations for excellence in the line
of duty, emphasized the significance of debates because
the Sheriff’s office is such an important position in
Atlantic County.
Munoz said, “Last year, when
McGettigan ran unsuccessfully for County Executive, he
didn’t even have a clue about the budget of his (the
Sheriff’s) department or the number of personnel under
his command. Recently, he hired an under sheriff who has
absolutely no police background and another under
sheriff in his department is his cousin.”
“I want to offer the voters every
opportunity to hear both of us openly discuss the issues
that are so vital to all residents and taxpayers of
Atlantic County,” said Munoz. There are concerns and
issues that effect the residents in the western part of
our county, which are different from the needs of
residents of our inland communities. It is imperative
that McGettigan and I select times and places as soon as
possible and then, the voters can hear us discuss the
issues and our platforms,” said Munoz.
“I welcome any media outlet, radio
personality, civic group or municipal organization to
contact me, as well as my opponent, so we can set-up the
debates and guidelines,” said Munoz. “I will be there
and anxiously look forward to a series of debates. These
debates will allow the voters the opportunity to make an
educated choice in the June 3, 2008 Primary Election
after hearing both of us discuss the issues and concerns
of this Sheriff’s race.”
