ATTORNEY JOE LEVIN
PRESS CONFERENCE
SET
FOR TODAY (TUESDAY)
AT
12:30 P.M. AT LEVIN'S
3201 ATLANTIC AVENUE OFFICE
REGARDING ATLANTIC CITY
COUNCILMAN GENE ROBINSON
BLACKMAIL SCANDAL
Levin will be joined by Councilman Robinson,
Councilman George Tibbitt, Councilman Steve
Moore, NAACP Representative Steve Young and
other respected community leaders.
The
Press conference will address the manner in
which the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office
has handled the case against the defendants
accused of attempting to blackmail Councilman
Robinson.
In
particular they plan to address the Prosecutor's
explicit consent to the admission of Councilman
John Schultz, one of the defendants accused in
the blackmail conspiracy, into the Pre-Trial
Intervention program.
This program allows a criminal defendant to be
placed on pre-trial probation without having to
acknowledge wrongdoing.
This group also plans to address what they call
a "more disturbing aspect of the Prosecutor's
consent - namely, that, as part of his
admittance into the Pre-Trial Intervention
program, Councilman Schultz will not have to
forfeit his public office. In other words,
despite his alleged involvement in the blackmail
scheme of a fellow Councilman, Councilman
Schultz will be able to remain on City Council.
Finally, the group plans to address the
disparity in treatment regarding the
Prosecutor's handling of other political
corruption cases and this one.
