CAIN AND DeFEO CALL ON
KESSELMAN & McLAUGHLIN
TO REFUSE SUPPORT FROM WHEELING PAC
Charlie Cain and Rich
DeFeo, Republican candidates for Hamilton
Township Committee, today called on Democrats
Mehri McLaughlin and Harvey Kesselman to refuse
money from Hamilton Citizens for Action – a
Political Action Committee recently formed to
get around the Township’s tough Pay-to-Play
ban. The organization is holding a fundraising
event for Kesselman and McLaughlin on September
24 at Mays Landing Country Club.
“Under Republican control, Hamilton Township
Committee enacted a tough Pay-to-Play ordinance,
modeled on a similar ordinance authored by
County Executive Dennis Levinson,” said Rich
DeFeo, a resident of the Laureldale section of
Hamilton Township.
“We're disappointed that local Democrats seem to
be attempting to get around that ban by setting
up a PAC that is separate from their campaign
fund to receive campaign contributions. This is
exactly what the Township’s Pay-to-Play law was
designed to avoid.”
“We are calling on
McLaughlin and Kesselman to stay away from this
event on Thursday – where both are listed on the
invitation – and publicly state that they will
not accept any funds from Hamilton Citizens for
Action and other PAC accounts that are clearly
designed to circumvent our Pay-to-Play law,”
said Charlie Cain, who resides in the Clarkstown
section of Hamilton Township. “Our residents
deserve a clean campaign and fundraising that
respects our local Pay-to-Play laws.”
The campaign of Cain and DeFeo has identified at
least 5 or more accounts that have been
established to fund the local Democrat campaign
in Hamilton Township where a tough Pay-to-Play
ban was enacted last year by the
Republican-controlled committee. Both
candidates called on Hamilton Township voters to
be wary of fundraising efforts that seek to
circumvent this ban. “We need government that
is for Hamilton Township residents, not campaign
donors from outside of Hamilton Township.”
