The
Associated Press and The Atlantic City Press got it
wrong all day yesterday.
I broke
hew news first in the market yesterday that Scott
Evans had conceded and finally accepted his defeat
at the hands of Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo
Langford.
the
regrettable point is that Evans had two choices:
Take the
high road, accept defeat and handle it with class
and dignity.
Or,
acknowledge defeat and take the low road and trash
talk the voters decision and Mayor Langford.
Sadly,
Evans decided to take the low road. But, don't hold
to hard against Evans ... he can't help it ... It's
his very nature. It's like the old story about the
Scorpian and the Frog.
Evans
can't help it ... It's his nature.
Also, it
didn't even take 24 hours for another "Hurley in the
Morning" election prediction to come true.
Evans will
not be leaving offic. He intends to serve through
the certification of the November General Election,
when he will have to leave by law at that point.
Evans had
no legitimacy from the start ... and, he has even
less now (if that's even possible), after suffering
a resounding thrashing this past Tuesday.
I wish
Evans had risen above his core level and taken the
high road and congratulated Mayor Langford, promised
a smooth transition and simply moved on ... back to
his career in the Atlantic City Fire Department.
He just
couldn't bring himself to do it. I'm not surprised,
I expected it ... But, hoped he could have risen
higher and placed the City of Atlantic City and her
taxpayers first.
But, they
were never first, it was always about what's in it
for Scot Evans. Well, he found out this past
Tuesday, when the voters gave him his political
walking papers.
Evans
bears serious watching over the next several months
ahead. We will be here to provide the public with a
daily accounting of what's going on in this rogue,
un-elected, Executive Branch government in Atlantic
City.
Finally,
City Council must step up, and take control of
Atlantic City government until Mayor Langford is
sworn back into office. There role is more vital
then ever before.
