DONOHUE - CONRAD CALL FOR
100-DAY TAX REVOLT
March 17, 2009, Ocean City, NJ:
Republicans Assembly Candidates Mike Donohue and
Frank Conrad today call on residents of the First
District to participate in a 100-Day Tax Revolt
against the tax assault Gov. Jon Corzine launched in
his proposed budget.
“Americans don’t just sit
around and whine about tax hikes. We take action.
Gov. Corzine and his friends in the Legislature are
going to hear from the people of the First District
as, over the next 100 days, we host an all-out Tax
Revolt,” Donohue says. “We will take our protest to
the streets of Atlantic, Cumberland and Cape May
counties. Between now and July 1, when the budget is
introduced in the N.J. Assembly, we will hold a
public protest in every town in the First District.”
“Property taxpayers and
business owners in South Jersey are hit extra hard
by the Corzine tax proposals,” Donohue says. “The
average family loses its property tax rebate and its
property tax deduction and is paying higher property
taxes because of reduced state aid.”
At the same time, Gov. Corzine
refuses to send any of the billions of federal
stimulus dollars to Cumberland County. The tax
assault continues: South Jersey’s tourism-based
economy suffers as beach funding is slashed, tourism
promotion is reduced and wine and liquor taxes are
hiked. Soon, payroll taxes will increase, further
burdening the small businesses of South Jersey.
The Donohue-Conrad campaign
will visit each of the 22 towns in the First
District, inviting average citizens to voice their
outrage and offer alternatives to the Corzine
Democrats’ plan to impose crippling tax policies on
South Jersey. The protests will be videotaped,
posted online at DonohueConrad.com and
sent to the Governor.
“Our campaign is about taking
it to the streets,” Conrad says. “People have had it
with the tax-and-spend policies of the Corzine
Democrats. Taxpayers are looking for an outlet to
shout out their protest.”
“Today we call on the residents
of the First District to join us in a 100-Day Tax
Revolt,” Conrad says. “We will record the protests
and ideas of frustrated taxpayers, post them on our
website and send them to the Governor and the First
District Democrats to show them that voters have had
it with their irresponsible budget proposals.”
