Statement of Freeholder Alisa Cooper
(Mays Landing) - Atlantic County Freeholder
Alisa Cooper released the following statement on
tonight’s resolution advancing bonds for the
Atlantic County Institute of Technology school
construction:
“I have said from the beginning that I supported
the Atlantic County Institute of Technology
school construction and expansion project, but,
preferred that the voters have their say on
spending this large sum of money, especially
during this very troubled economy.
Since the majority of the Board did not vote for
this to go to the people, we are no longer
debating the referendum…that is not the issue we
are discussing tonight. On July 1,
I voted to allow the people of Atlantic County
to make the decision as to this school.
While I still strongly believe the public should
have input on large projects and expenditures,
such as this, I am voting in favor of this
resolution, because I do support the merits of
building schools for Atlantic County‘s
students. In my heart, I know this project is
in the best interests of our community and many,
students will benefit from this project and I do
believe that we should now move forward with the
funding. As a teacher and a freeholder, I am
voting yes.
