ALISA COOPER ANNOUNCES TODAY THAT SHE WILL NOT SEEK

IN
DISTRICT 2
Freeholder Cooper Will Not
Seek Assembly Seat
Recently Re-elected Official Says Her Obligation
Is To Atlantic County
Linwood, N.J. (March 22, 2009) - After much
consideration, Atlantic County Freeholder Alisa
Cooper announced today that she will not seek the
District 2 seat for the New Jersey General Assembly
this year.
Cooper, who was re-elected in November to the
Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders, said
she was deeply honored that the party leadership
approached her to become a candidate and said she
would seriously consider doing so in the future.
For now, however, she said her obligation is to the
people of Atlantic County.
“I am most grateful that the Democratic Party asked
me to be a candidate for the State Assembly,” Cooper
said. “I appreciate their utmost confidence in me as
someone who would be an effective representative of
the 2nd District in Trenton. My late mother, who
served as both a Freeholder and then an
Assemblywoman, showed what strong, visionary
leadership in Trenton meant for the residents of the
2nd District, and I look forward someday to
following in her footsteps.”
“But, the voters of Atlantic County re-elected me
for a second term to the Atlantic County Freeholder
Board only a few months ago -- once again, putting
their confidence and trust in me. I am not about to
turn my back on them. In these very difficult
economic times, it is my primary responsibility to
address the needs and concerns facing Atlantic
County, and I am going to honor that commitment.”
