GOP nominees speak to
Millville First civic group, note absence of Dem opponents
(OCEAN CITY, September 10) – First
Legislative District GOP Assembly nominees Mike Donohue and
John McCann last night spoke to a gathering organized by the
civic group Millville First, and challenged their Democrat
opponents, Nelson Albano and Matt Milam, to join them for
more debates.
“Judge Porreca and the Millville First
organization are working hard to inform themselves and their
neighbors about the important issues on the table in this
election, and last night’s candidates’ forum was an
excellent opportunity for John and me to get together with
them and share our ideas on how we can get Trenton moving in
the right direction again,” said Donohue. “You can’t change
Trenton without changing the people in Trenton, and the
members of Millville First get that.
“It would have been better, of course,
if our Corzine Democrat opponents, Nelson Albano and Matt
Milam, had attended the meeting, too, so that we could have
an honest and open exchange of opinions,” Donohue continued.
“But they apparently decided they had more important things
to do.
“Frankly, given the stakes in this
election – with property taxes the highest in the nation,
with hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans forced to flee
the state, with unemployment at its highest rate in decades
– we should be having MORE debate and discussion, not less.
The non-debate debate we had last night could have been SO
much more educational.”
“The Millville residents Mike and I met
last night at the candidates’ night were a great group of
people – they were informed, they were interested, they were
committed to doing something to make their communities
better,” said McCann.
“I just wish they would have had the
opportunity to hear from our Democrat opponents. Perhaps
they could have explained why is it that since Democrats
took power in Trenton in 2002, they’ve raised taxes 115
times? And maybe they could have explained why is it that
we’ve got the highest property taxes in the nation, despite
repeated Democrat promises over the years to get property
taxes under control?
“Nelson Albano and Matt Milam have
agreed to appear at just one debate – the League of Women
Voters debate, on October 14. With due respect, that’s
ridiculous,” McCann continued. “It’s disrespectful to the
voters, and it’s not right. Mike and I will meet them
anywhere, any time. And then, let the people decide.”
According to a report in the Bridgeton
News, Albano missed last night’s candidates’ forum because
he was visiting his son in Texas, while Milam was at an
undisclosed location in West Virginia.
