Dear Elected Official:

 

At the request of State Senator Jeff Van Drew, Buena Vista Township will be hosting a Press Conference. 

The purpose is to Oppose the Charges Being Levied on Rural State Police Communities, and, to support Senator Van Drew's  Bill S-1976 which imposes a $40 surcharge on all motor vehicle violations to defray some of the costs in providing local police services.  

 

S-1976 provides funding for all police departments in New Jersey and will also allow for rural State Police communities to receive funding to offset fees for those services.  All towns in New Jersey with police departments and all legislators would have a stake in Senator Van Drew's bill.

 

The Press Conference will take place this Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 2:30 PM at Buena Vista Township Municipal Building (directions below). 

 

This invite is open to the leadership of all State Police Communities, full or part time, and is extended to all Mayors, Council or Committee Members, Administrators or representatives.  We need to send a clear message to Trenton that we will not stand for this unfair burden on our local taxpayers and that we are willing to support solutions to fix the problem.

 

State Senate Majority Leader Steve Sweeney and Senator Jeff Van Drew are CONFIRMED for this meeting.  Senators Whelan and Connors have been invited.  Assemblymen Albano and Milam are also confirmed and invites have been extended to other Assembly members. This will be a bipartisan effort to stand up and fight for this important issue.

 

Buena Vista Township Municipal Building is located at 890 Harding Highway, Buena, NJ 08310 (for MapQuest purposes).  Harding Highway is also known as US Route 40.  The building is located on US Route 40 just one mile east of the intersection of NJ Route 54 (which is an extension of US Route 206).

Atlantic City Expressway Exit 28 then take NJ Route 54 south towards Vineland / Buena then follow above instructions.
