Support the Brigantine Community and
Emergency Evacuation Center
You may have read about the city’s
efforts to purchase the St. Philip the Apostle School
and the frivolous lawsuit brought by Anne Phillips and
two others to prevent it. Well, it’s taken two long
years, but the city is finally ready to move forward
with the purchase.
There will be a special-election on June
17th which will provide an opportunity for
residents to vote on the purchase of the St. Philips
Tract via referendum.
The referendum is the most direct way for residents to
take an active role in shaping the nature of our
community through
consensus decision-making.
Many people support the prospect of a new
community and emergency evacuation center and have
joined together to form a committee called B.C.A –
Brigantine Community Alliance. The B.C.A and its members
believe the school purchase is a wise decision and will
provide Brigantine residents with a valuable community
and emergency evacuation center at a great price.
Anne Phillips and others, on the other hand, have
continually opposed the purchase and kept this dispute
going. Their lawsuits have already cost the City over
$100,000 in legal fees and have only extended the
process for no valid reason. Maybe this type of
politics has a place in Washington, D.C – but it
shouldn’t have a home in our town. We’re a close-knit
community of neighborhoods.
We
must protect our special quality of life. We can keep
Brigantine a great place to live, work and raise a
family…if we work together
Now, the will of the people will finally
determine whether this project can move forward.
Our
group, the B.C.A, wants to engage the community directly
and believes we can build a positive consensus on the
issues facing our town.
We also strongly believe that divisive personal politics
has no place in our community.
On
June 17th, your yes vote to approve the ballot question
will go a long way towards putting the divisivness to
an end and ensuring Brigantine residents have a
community and emergency center of which to be proud.
Sincerely,
Jerry Roth
