Atlantic City Convention & Visitors
Authority
Statement regarding Governor Chris Christie's Press
Conference
Held Today in Atlantic City
July 21, 2010
Today's announcement by Governor Chris Christie outlined
unprecedented plans by the State of New Jersey to
reinvigorate investment in Atlantic City by creating an
"Atlantic City Tourism District" which will assume full and
complete control of certain government activities and
operations within the defined Tourism District. The Tourism
District will consist of casino areas and Boardwalk.
Additionally, the State of New Jersey will establish a
structure for a Public-Private partnership with state and
local government, casino industry and the greater Atlantic
City community represented. The new ACT District would take
the role of the public component of this partnership while a
newly formed Atlantic City Partnership would take on the
private component.
This is a very positive step for Atlantic City as this
public-private "Atlantic City Partnership," will create the
structure needed to meet many important goals including
expansion and improvements to the Boardwalk, investment in
Atlantic City and expediting of established "Clean and Safe"
initiatives.
Governor Christie specifically addressed the Atlantic City
Convention & Visitors Authority by stating that the ACCVA
will be 'folded into' the Atlantic City Partnership.
We look forward to working with Governor Christie and his
team to define ACCVA's role in the partnership.
We are proud of the work that the ACCVA has done in
promoting this destination. Our marketing efforts
demonstrate and advocate that diversity beyond gaming is
Atlantic City's future. We're fully committed to support
Governor Christie in his efforts to help Atlantic City reach
its true potential as an all-in-one entertainment and resort
destination like no other on the East Coast.
As an organization and as a destination, we have marketed
effectively in tough times. The ACCVA has and will continue
to promote the destination, develop new business and expand
beyond gaming despite increased competition and a decline in
the economy.
This is an effort that we have advocated and applied in our
marketing as we've sought to complement our gaming product
with our other outstanding attractions.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Atlantic City
Convention & Visitors Authority. We will continue to provide
you with more information as we help move Atlantic City into
a successful future.
Meanwhile, we look forward to continuing our daily marketing
efforts with each and every one of our Marketing Partners!
