PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY MISCHARACTERIZES
SHORE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PLANS
Good afternoon/evening,
In behalf of Shore Memorial Hospital I am writing to
clarify a recent article in the Press of Atlantic
City which incorrectly implied that the hospital is
putting the later part of its expansion plans on
hold and greatly mischaracterized the hospital’s
development plans.
Shore Memorial is simply asking the Somers Point
Planning Board next month to approve the
construction of a four-story parking garage instead
of a planned six-story structure.
After a careful analysis, the hospital has
determined that a four-story parking garage will
fully meet the needs of our patients, employees and
the surrounding community. We also feel it is
prudent to avoid diverting resources to excess
construction during these economic times. The more
than $5 million the hospital stands to save on
construction will help Shore Memorial continue to
create jobs and deliver the highest-quality patient
care to the community.
Meanwhile, the hospital continues to follow its
master development plan that delineates a footprint
of growth for the next 25 to 30 years. The
centerpiece of our plan is a new 135,000 square foot
surgical pavilion, which is scheduled to open in
June 2011. Outfitted with the latest technology in a
spacious and comfortable environment, the surgical
pavilion will deliver a new standard of patient care
to the community.
Shore Memorial is woven into the fabric of Somers
Point, and the hospital’s commitment to the
community has never been stronger. We’re investing
in our facilities, we’re investing in patient care
and we’re investing in our community.
Please feel free to reach out to me with further
questions.
Thank you,
Courtney Spahr
