County Services Offer Needed
Assistance to Area Residents
Atlantic County residents who need assistance have
easy access to a variety of essential programs and
services provided by the Atlantic County Division of
Intergenerational Services.
Rated in the highest tier for compliance with the
Older Americans Act by the state Division of Aging and
Community Services for the tenth consecutive year, the
Atlantic County Division of Intergenerational Services
offers trained staff who are available to provide
information and referral to eligible senior citizens,
residents who are challenged with physical or mental
disabilities and youth and families who need a helping
hand.
"The Atlantic County Division of Intergenerational
Services is a convenient and caring resource for
residents who need help, but may not know where to
turn," stated County Executive Dennis Levinson.
Senior citizens 60 years of age and older are invited
to attend any one of nine senior centers located
throughout the county. The centers are open from 9 AM to
2 PM and offer courses, activities and informative
presentations in addition to a daily lunchtime meal.
Additional services to senior citizens include
transportation, meals on wheels, home care services,
caregiver support programs and a prescription savings
program. The county also offers a will preparation
clinic for seniors and residents with disabilities in
coordination with the Atlantic County Surrogate’s
Office.
The Office of Disability Services is available to
plan, develop and coordinate support services for
individuals of any age who have a physical or mental
disability. In coordination with the NJ Division of
Disability, the county assists with information and
referral, client advocacy and consultation services
regarding laws, regulations and issues that affect
residents with disabilities.
Support services are available for youth and families
including juvenile or family crisis intervention.
To provide even easier access to residents, the
Division of Intergenerational Services deploys a mobile
outreach van that visits local shopping malls, grocery
stores, libraries, hospitals, housing complexes and
municipal buildings with available staff to answer
questions and provide information about programs and
services.
