Harry:
Last week, in the Atlantic City Press, there was a n
article about the western end of the County and the
Sheriff's Dept. In that article, the reporter stated that
the Sheriff's Dept never patrolled the Western End (Estelle
Manor, Corbin City, Weymouth, Buena Vista, etc). Well, I am
here to dispute that. I was a road patrol officer for many
years and I patrolled those areas. It started under Sheriff
Mario Floriani and continued, for a while under the present
administration. I also was assigned to the Atlantic City
rail Terminal and did prisoner pickup, as well. That all
ended with the present Sheriff's Dept. administration. With
regard to prisoner pickup, we would go to the different
departments who would have subjects going, to the jail,
every nite and pick up those prisoners so that the local law
enforcement officers could remain out on the street,
protecting their towns.
All that stopped under the present administration. With
regard to the Press reporter, it is my information that the
reporter was advised that we were on the street but he has
allegedly refused to print the truth or to change his story
to reflect that we did patrol in those areas.
I just wanted the truth to be out that we were out there,
we did do prisoner pickups and that we do not do them
anymore.
Thanks,
Joe Amici
