The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA), in
partnership with the Township of Ocean will begin
providing curbside recycling collection for
residents starting July 14, 2008.
This is the first time the ACUA will provide
collection services in Ocean County, but this is not
the first municipality outside Atlantic County’s
borders to choose the ACUA to provide collection
services. Since February of this year, the ACUA has
been collecting recycling from residents in Ocean
City, Cape May County.
For the Township of Ocean, this partnership offers
the town an opportunity to save its taxpayers money,
without sacrificing services to the residents.
“Partnering with an organization like the ACUA can
only be a positive,” stated Township of Ocean
Administrator, Ken Mosca. The decision was based
not only on the ACUA’s collection efficiency and
experience, but also on the ACUA’s attention to
public education and customer service. For the
Township of Ocean, this added value to the
collection agreement. Township employees who had
been performing collection service will continue
working for the municipality, utilizing skills where
they are most needed.
For residents, the same materials will be collected
with the same weekly frequency. Collection days
will change for some residents as the Township moves
from collecting four days a week to two. Friday
collections will be moved to Mondays and Wednesday
collections will move to Tuesday as of July 14th.
