Atlantic City Police Chief John J.
Mooney offered the following
statement Saturday afternoon
regarding the tragic death of Police
Officer Dennis McGurk and his wife:
"The men
and women of the Atlantic City
Police Department mourn the tragic
loss of our brother officer Dennis
McGurk and his wife Oksana in a
horrific aviation incident late
Friday evening near the Woodbine
Airport. Officer McGurk, age 37, was
an eleven year veteran of the
department and his wife, age 34, was
a dental hygienist for a local
dental practice."
Chief
Mooney continued, "Officer McGurk
was a valued and dedicated member of
the department whose service focused
on the community aspects of
policing. He was assigned to the
Police Community Partnership Unit
often involved in community events
and dedicated time in his off-duty
hours to assist Msgr. William Hodge
at St. Nicholas of Tolentine RC
Church in Atlantic City. Dennis was
an accomplished police bicyclist and
ATV rider who had assisted others in
learning the skills necessary to use
those tools for law enforcement
purposes. His loss will not only be
felt in the department, it will be
felt throughout the community. We
offer our most sincere sympathies to
the long-standing local McGurk
family and the family of his wife.
The Police Department is preparing
to render appropriate honors to our
brother as we mark his passing."
