Atlantic City High School Television Production students to
receive awards from National Weather Service and Mayor
Atlantic City High School Television Production students
will receive awards on Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
from the National Weather Service, and the Office of the
Mayor of Atlantic City at Atlantic City High School in the
Library. The students are being awarded for their work on a
video entitled “HEAT: Home/High-rise Evacuation
Accountability Training.”
The video, co-produced by the Atlantic City Office of
Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Transportation
Company, outlines accountability training and recommended
procedures in preparing for a controlled evacuation. Such
evacuations may occur in the event on an impending
hurricane.
The video was shot in Atlantic City and features the
residents of Jeffries Towers High-rise as the actors and
actresses who find themselves facing a category three
hurricane, and must evacuate to safer locations before the
storms arrival.
The National Weather Service’s own Jim Eberwine and NBC40’s
weather anchor Dan Skeldon, who delivered true to life
performances as themselves, provided realism in “HEAT.”
Eberwine and Skeldon track the approaching Hurricane “Allyn,”
named after A.C. O.E.M. director Allyn Seel, as most of the
residents of Jeffries Towers heed their warnings and begin
evacuation procedures.
Though shot entirely in the Atlantic City area, the “HEAT”
video could be used by any coastal community in preparation
for a hurricane or other reason for a controlled evacuation.
The ACHS TV students worked for about six weeks in all areas
of on site production of the video.
The media is cordially invited to attend the award ceremony
and receive a copy of “HEAT: Home/High-rise Evacuation
Accountability Training.”
