BOB
McDEVITT-BACKED
CANDIDATES
HAD GREAT
SUCCESS THIS
PAST JUNE
3RD ...
DOES
McDEVITT
WANT TO BE
THE NEXT
ATLANTIC
CITY
DEMOCRATIC
CHAIRMAN?
So many have
ignored the
importance
of these
seats ...
not us!

Local 54
President
Bob McDevitt
may have
publicly
stayed out
of Decision
2008 for
Mayor of
Atlantic
City, but,
McDevitt was
very
involved in
helping to
deliver a
substantial
number of
successful
Committee
seats for
candidates
he ran and
supported.
McDevitt
clearly
understands
the
importance
of these
two-year
term seats.
McDevitt
backed
candidates
won the most
seats this
past June
3rd, but not
a majority.
Langford
backed
candidates
won the
second most
seats.
Callaway
candidates,
powered by
absentee
ballots won
several
seats.
This all
matters a
lot.
Because
within the
next several
days, a new
Atlantic
City
Democratic
Chairman
will be
selected.
We've all
directly
witnessed
over the
past two
years how
important
this
position and
these seats
can be.
Multiple
reliable
sources
have told me
that
Bob McDevitt
himself may
very want to
be the next
Democratic
Chairman in
Atlantic
City.
He's bright,
hard-working
and viable.
His
disadvantages
coming in
would be the
fact that
he's a
life-long
Republican,
and, that he
stayed on
the
sidelines by
design,
while so
many worked
so hard for
Langford to
be the next
Mayor.
McDevitt has
not
expressed
interest in
this
position to
me.
The names
George
Tibbitt and
Marty Small
have also
been
mentioned.
The vote for
a new
Chairman
should be
very
interesting,
because it
will require
compromise.
Ironically,
The
Callaways
could wield
tremendous
power in
deciding who
the next
Chairman
will be.
But, if
history is
any gauge of
the present
and future,
The
Callaways
always want
something
for their
political
support.
In gthis
life, I
cannot
imagine Bob
McDevitt
striking a
political
deal with
The
Callaways.
So, it is my
hope that
the next
Atlantic
City
Democratic
Chairman
comes from a
thoughtful
process that
includes
compromise
from
Langford and
McDevitt
winners.
Hey,
McDevitt was
an Atlantic
City Press
officially
designated
"LOSER" just
like me back
in 2005,
when
Callaway and
Levy
snuckered so
many, but
not us.
I guess
McDevitt
figures to
be a
"WINNER"
this time
around. But,
I think it
would be a
mistake for
him to seek
the
Chairman's
position,
because
there is no
natural
progression
here. It
looks
forced. If
it were to
occur, it
looks
opportunistic
and, a grab
for power.
Bob's too
pure and
decent in my
book for
some kind of
power grab.
