OBSERVATIONS BY HARRY
HURLEY
THE MORNING AFTER ...
Wednesday, June 3, 2009
6:55 a.m.
Yesterday was an amazing day,
for so many reasons!
First, I want to thank the more
than 4,000 people who were with us last night during our live election night
coverage at
www.HarryHurley.com
We did it, again ... We had
results and pertinent information faster than anyone else. Thanks to our
many sources around the state who came through with fast, and, most
importantly, accurate information.
We can't do it with you.
The pace was beyond furious.
Thank you to Beth Epstein from "Repair & Click it" (Her Web Services
Division of her great Company) ... for all of her help setting up our
instant flash return coverage. Beth does a phenomenal job managing our
Breaking News Page at
www.HarryHurley.com.
Also, my thanks and
appreciation to Art B #3 for all of his help with HarryHurley.com main page.
We had a great Primary Election
season. In truth, we ran the "table," as each and every candidate we backed
WON! But, it's not just about winning ... although that's always nice.
It is my stated policy to not
personally endorse many candidates. But ...
From: Chris Christie, to: Vince
Polistina, John Amodeo, Mike Donahue, Frank Conrad, Frank Giordano, Frank
Formica, to: Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford, Councilman George
Tibbitt, Hamilton Township Committeeman in waiting, Charles Cain ...
Each and everyone carried the day last night.
I am extremely proud of the way
this broadcast conducted itself. We gave everyone a fair hearing ... we
didn't succumb to some of the low conduct of those who went way over the
line in this campaign ...
We stayed professional ... we
did it right.
I also supported the Boscov's
Loan Guarantee ... and, even that came in on Primary Election Day, off the
ballot ... when the Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders approved it
by a bi-partisan 8-1 margin.
With no rest for the
politically weary ... we now transition to the General Election campaign.
I have to say that I was
thoroughly impressed with the way that Mayor Steve Lonegan graciously
accepted defeat last night. It was a text book, do and say everything right
moment for him.
He looked bigger then himself
... But, you could tell, some in his faithful following would not go along
with Lonegan's plea to bring the Republican Party together.
I am convinced that the
Republican Party will strongly re-unite ... Yes, there will be a handful of
Lonegan worshipper's that will remain nasty and refuse to accept reality,
but, this number will statistically insignificant in the end.
Chris Christie won a great
victory last night. He is in great position to win the General Election.
But, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will be spending a lot of time and energy
and money on trying to stop this result from happening.
Locally, it was a great victory
for Mayor Langford. No one expected the margin of victory he earned last
night. And, David Tayoun finished second at the polls ... with absentee
ballots, Small may take second before it's all over ... But, it was nice to
see messenger absentee ballots not control the final result.
However, Councilman Tibbitt's
margin of victory at the polls over Ernest Coursey is about 237 votes. We
will have to wait and see how/where these paper ballots fall. Although
Tibbitt, with Stephaneine Dixon and Marcus Wilson had a highly credible and
ethical absentee ballot campaign.
Tibbitt should be fine.
But, it does show how important
the "line" was in Atlantic City. Without the line ... Tibbitt probably goes
down last night in defeat ... which would have been a disgrace.
You have to give Coursey
credit. He ran very strong off the line. truth be told ... there was a lot
of ticket splitting ... But, Langford had coat tails last night ... no
question about it. He's done this before. Mo Delgado and Gilliam will be
newcomers to Atlantic City Council and the whole Regular Democratic ticket
prevailed yesterday.
Proving once and for all, how
much it mean to Langford, when he won the endorsement of the Atlantic City
Democratic Committee.
It also proved, for those who
doubted how important it was when Tibbitt boldly fled his former running
mate, won the Regular Democratic endorsement from Chairman Pat D'Arcy.
Huge day for political
junkies. Now, a very crowded field will batlle for Mayor in the General
Election Campaign.
Langford, Joe Polillo, Jesse
Kurtz, Mandi Love and Dennis Mason officially filed his petitions yesterday
to run as an Independent for Mayor.
Finally, you can't give Charles
Cain enough credit for doing what he did yesterday. It's so hard to win off
the line. Republican Chairman John Sacchinelli's surprise endorsement of
Cain on "Hurley in the Morning" on the day before
yesterday's election ... was the final push to put Cain over the top ... not
to take credit away from the great campaign that he ran.
