The Atlantic City High School Hall of Fame Association is pleased to announce the 2009 Inductees who will be honored at a Luncheon scheduled for April 19, 2009.  The purpose of the Association is to honor players, coaches, individuals and teams who have made a distinctive contribution to the rich athletic history of the High School.  The Inductees fall into five categories.

The first category is for athletes and the new Inductees will be Elwood Graham, Class of 1947, Bob Brooks 1948, George Sarkos 1949, Ted Bergman 1957, Robert Fiedler 1964, Robert Lex 1980, Wendy Trockenbrod 1988, Thomas Kelly 1992 and Nick Tripician 1996.

In the coaches category the Association will be inducting Robert Garbutt who coached the Atlantic City High School Crew team for over 23 years guiding them to many championships. 

Three of Atlantic City High Schools greatest teams will also be inducted.  The first will be the Swimming teams of the years 1923 to 1925 which won three national championships and were know as the “Wonder Merman”.  The second team is the Boys Basketball squad of 1938 which was the first undefeated basketball team in high school history.   The third is the 1994 Varsity Eight Crew team which won the national championship and finished second at the Henley Royal Regatta in England. 

The Association will also honor L. Maude Norris as an Outstanding Contributor for her 25 plus years of service as a Physical Education teacher who promoted girls participation in sports and who created the “Statuette of Life” award in 1932. 

The Hall of Fame also recognizes female athletes for their achievements during the years before girl’s interscholastic varsity sports.  This year the recipient will be Loretta Perlstein Class of 1954. 

The Luncheon and ceremony honoring these individuals and teams will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 12:30 pm at Atlantic City Country Club on Shore Road in Northfield.  Reservations are available at $35.00 per person and can be made by calling Ken Williams at 609-927-7736 or sending checks to Mr. Williams at 205 Euclid Avenue, Somers Point, NJ 08244.  Tickets will not be available at the door.  Any person or business interested in being a Hall of Fame sponsor may contact the Atlantic City High School Athletic Department at 609-343-7300 ext. 2096 or by mailing a check to the
