STATE SENATOR DIANE ALLEN CALLS FOR

IMMEDIATE APOLOGY TO WOMEN OF ATLANTIC COUNTY

State Senator Diane Allen (R-7) released the following statement today:

The Chairman of the Atlantic County Democrats, Pat D’Arcy, has said that women will vote for his assembly candidates because the two men are “good-looking.”

Is he nuts? Does he really think women are so stupid that they would vote for a candidate based on looks? Or does he just think that saying women are dumb is funny? Either way, if he wants the votes of Atlantic County women, he is going about it the wrong way.

Earlier this month I spoke to a large gathering of the Atlantic County Commission on Women. While there were many differences in the women – party, age, color and ethnicity – I believe they would all find the Chairman’s comment equally troubling.

The women in Atlantic County, indeed in the state, are just as politically engaged as the men. We look for what candidates stand for, for what they have accomplished, and how they will lead us out of the current economic morass. Perhaps the Chairman’s two Assembly candidates have no accomplishments. Maybe they have no new ideas to offer.

Fortunately we have two Assemblymen in Atlantic County who have an excellent record of accomplishment and who have a plan to help families through these difficult economic times. Assemblymen Polistina and Amodeo have proven that they don’t underestimate women or women’s issues.

The women of Atlantic County deserve an apology.
