Freeholder Russo to Retire After
Nearly Two Decades of Public Service
District 2 Freeholder Tom Russo
announced today that after 18 years of public
service on the Atlantic County Board of Chosen
Freeholders he will not be seeking reelection to a 7th
term later this year.
“I am proud to have been a part of
the finest run county government in the State of New
Jersey,” said Freeholder Russo. “Now is the time
for new leadership to join the Freeholder Board to
meet the challenges which lie ahead.”
Russo was first elected to the
Freeholder Board in 1991 and voters returned him to
office in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, and 2006.
“Tom Russo has been part of the same
Republican leadership in Atlantic County which has
held the line on county taxes while funding critical
county services -- like programs for our seniors and
veterans,” said Freeholder Board Chairman Jim Curcio.
“He
has been a great asset to this Board.”
Freeholder Frank Giordano echoed
Curcio‘s comments: “I think Tom Russo will
principally be known for his work on acquiring
thousands of acres of open space for future
generations here in Atlantic County which has
enhanced our quality of life.”
In addition to his years on the
Freeholder Board, Russo also spent four years as an
Atlantic City Councilman including one year as the
Council President.
“Most of Tom Russo’s life has been
devoted to public service in one form or another,”
recalled County Executive Dennis Levinson. “Whether
it’s the three years he served in the Army, the
years he spent making Atlantic City a better place
to live, or the last 18 years which he devoted to
improving the lives of residents throughout Atlantic
County.”
Atlantic County Republicans will meet
in the spring at their annual convention to nominate
a candidate to run for Russo’s seat in the fall.
